June is a great month to hit the warm waters and catch some early season catfish. Money doesn't grow on trees but it seems that catalp worms do and they can catch a money fish to land in the fryer;) The catalpa worms are the larval form of the Ceratomia catalpae or the Catalpa Sphinx moth. They make the most excelent live bait to fish with. I found this while doing a google search on fishing with catalpa worms. "They can be preserved alive by placing them in cornmeal packed in an air tight container and frozen. It has been said that when this container is opened and the worms are removed from the meal, they thaw and become active and as effective in catching fish as ever" -I need to try this! A method I have heard but not tried is supergluing them to a hook so they remain alive in the water. If you ever poked one with a hook you know that their life force of green goo (aka guts) come pouring out and thier squirming stops. This squirming action is what triggers most fish to attack so keeping them alive as long as possible seems like a good idea to me. Go catch a big one!
